May. 23rd, 2004 -- Stephanie Dieudonne, of New Rochelle, fell off the spider-shaped Mind Scrambler Saturday evening at Playland Amusement Park in Rye. She was later declared dead at a local hospital.
The girl rode the ride several times that day. Friends reported that each time she rode she got "a little more brave," which may suggest that the 7-year-old chose to kneel on the ride. The Mind Scrambler was closed after the incident, but the park remains open.
The investigation thus far shows no apparent operator error, but a more thorough investigation from the state Department of Labor will lead to more concrete conclusions.

This definately has not been a good year for the amusement industry, first the incident at SFNE, then the tree branch, then this, and it's only May.

This is sad to hear about when it is someone so young. Hopefully, whatever is wrong is figured out so that this may not happen again.

I hate to hear stories about little kids dying because they weren't riding correctly. I think an adult should have to ride with all children under 10.

^ Maybe not by age per se, but rather size.
Sorry to hear another kid died at an amusement park this year. What a shame.

This is another sad story. It sounds like there wasn't an adult with the child at the time.
People need to watch their kids better these days.

I hate it when I hear about any person get killed. If I here that, that makes me think the ride is very unsafe, except if the person was killed because of their own fault. Anyways this is sad.
