Jun. 1st, 2004 --
Girl Scout troops are often known for supplying relief through their once a year cookie sale, but on Saturday June 5, 2004, they will get some much deserved relief of their own when they travel to The Great Escape for the “Girl Scout Great Escape.” Nearly 3,000 Girl Scouts from all over the Northeast will meet up at the park to participate in a day full of exclusive treats, ceremonial activities, thrilling rides and amusements, and even get the chance to meet Rugrats Tommy and Chuckie of Nickelodeon fame.
Entering the gates at 8:30 a.m., the Girl Scouts will get their first taste of many exclusive opportunities throughout the day, relishing in one full hour of exclusive ride time before the park opens to the public. Hosted in the Fest Area, which houses such thrilling rides as the Alpine Bobsled, and the park’s signature wooden coaster, The Comet, the park will open five rides specifically for the girls, allowing them to experience the amusements without waiting in any lines.
Afterward, the girl scouts will gather at the North Woods picnic grove to conduct their official flag ceremony at 10 a.m., this year led by a local troop from Lake George. Following the flag ceremony and official Girl Scout pledge, the girls will take part in a group sing-a-long and “Trim A Tee” parade, which will feature one scout wearing a t-shirt specially designed by their fellow troop members. As the members march, the t-shirts will be judged, with the best t-shirt design winning that troop a small prize.
The girls will then use the skills they have learned throughout the year to complete a scavenger hunt. With the help of leading clues, they will attempt to find different rides and attractions, eventually being led back to the North Woods Picnic Grove for a catered lunch.
During this time the girls will also run into some other special guests visiting the park -- the Rugrats Characters.
Making a special visit to the park on the very same day as the troops will be Rugrats Tommy and Chuckie. The animated characters, known for their roles on the popular Nickelodeon television show, will spend exclusive one-on-one time with the Girl Scouts from noon - 1 p.m.
Tommy and Chuckie will also be available at the park’s Cinderella’s castle to meet the general public from 10 - 11 a.m. and from 2 - 5 p.m.
Admission to the Girl Scout Great Escape is $16.30, plus tax, per person, and $5.13, plus tax, per person for season pass holders wishing to attend. Cost of the buffet lunch is an additional $7.50 per person. Tickets to the Girl Scout Great Escape must be purchased in advance. The deadline is Thursday, June 3.
The Girls Scouts visit comes at a momentous time for The Great Escape, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2004.
