News: Death hasn't hurt Playland attendance

Posted at 8:48 PM EDT (0048 GMT)

Jun. 1st, 2004 -- Attendance hasn't slumped like Rye Playland officials feared after the death of a young girl. In fact, the attendance for the next day was up 28 percent from the previous year.

Experts say that since the incident was really an accident, it hasn't hurt their marketing ability or attendance. Any major drop in attendance would hurt an already struggling amusement park. They are predicted to lose $1.8 million this season alone.

I'm sorry a girl died, but am not surprised park attendance didn't drop as a result.

Too bad the park anticipates a major loss. I really hate when parks fold. I don't want the amusement park industry to become a big monopoly.
