News: Trainer is injured by elephant

Posted at 11:09 PM EDT (0309 GMT)

Jun. 2nd, 2004 -- Misha, a 23-year-old African elephant, knocked down her trainer and then gored him with her tusk Tuesday afternoon. Officals said the 39-year-old trainer was only standing by the elephant when she came after him.

Misha has been in Six Flags Marine World for 21 years. She has been isolated since the incident but has not shown any additional aggressive behavior.

Chapple was immediately transferred to a hospital in Walnut Creek and hospitalized for the injury. Misha's tusk passed through his abdomen and out his back. The injury does not appear to be life threatening.

I just hope the elephant wasn't put down as a result. Wild animals are just that---wild.

If the elephant was killed, then I'll be pissed!!!
