Posted at 9:31 AM EDT (1331 GMT) Jun. 17th, 2004 -- Two quakes measuring a 5.1 and a 4.7 on the Richter scale occurred in California on Tuesday. Neither of these earthquakes did an extreme amount of damage. The epicenter was reportedly 49 miles southwest of San Diego. This did, however, cause rides to shut down and Journey to Atlantis was evacuated by stairway.
Presumably, aftershocks could be occurring for the next two weeks. These will only rise to a 4.0 on the scale at the very most. Seismologists have dubbed the quake as moderate but powerful.
Sea World's Mission Bay evacuated 35 riders of Journey to Atlantis by stairway. Luckily, the 95-foot-tall ride did not incur any damage and the ride was reopened at 5:45 pm.
