News: Six Flags Over Texas closes due to flood

Posted at 5:03 PM EDT (2103 GMT)

Jun. 29th, 2004 -- Rain in North Texas has forced Six Flags Over Texas to close for today.

Park spokeswoman Sandra Daniels says no injuries have been reported in the flooding blamed on a nearby creek that's overflowed due to heavy rain. Water has overtaken most of the park, including walkways and some rides.

Parkgoers will recieve rain checks to return on another day.

There is no word yet as to when the park may reopen.

A little creek flooded the whole park? That must of been some heavy rain! Hope everything goes well and the park will open soon.

The Texas Giant looks like it was built in a pond. Here in Texas and surrounding States we have recieved a lot of rain over the past few days. A creek up in Ulvade, Texas rose 100 feet in 20 minutes. I know it is hard to belive it rose that high. But it is true. So we are expecting more rain for bout 2-3 more days. So i doubt SFOT will be open tomorrow or the next day.

Johnson creek isn't that little and calling it a 'nearby' creek is an understatement. Shockwave crosses the creek two or three times, and the drop on Batman is right over it. All the little pond areas in the park are connected to it as well. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often, to tell the truth.
