Posted at 12:49 PM EST (1749 GMT) Dec. 20th, 2003 -- In what has become an annual tradition, Cedar Point will donate money gathered from around the park and from recycled cans to children's charities.
Press Release Courtesy of Cedar Point SANDUSKY, Ohio (Dec. 19, 2003)- Cedar Point Amusement Park/resort will donate $7,000, collected through its coin collection program, to area organizations that provide services to children. During the operating season, the park's employees collect and turn in any loose change found underneath the rides, along the midway, and in the park's water fountain, all of which is then counted and donated to local organizatons that benefit children. The money will be donated to the Erie County Special Olympics, Erie County Victim Assitance Program, Court Appointed Special Advocate Program (CASA), Child Assault Prevention Project (CAP), Back to the Wild wildlife rehabilitation and nature education center, the Children's Bereavement Program of Stein Hospice, KinShip, PALS and the Soft T-Ball for Special Needs League. "The park's employees take pride in knowing that the money they find and turn in goes to help such worthwhile organizations", stated Daniel Keller, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. Cedar Point will also make a donation to the Northwest Ohio Aluminum Cans for Burned Children Fund of the Burn Care and Reconstructive Center at Saint Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. Aluminum cans were collected from recycling bins placed in employee break areas, throughout the park and in the Cedar Point Marina. The total value of these cans collected totaled $1,740. Since 1988, the coin collection program at Cedar Point has donated more than $144,000 to area children's organizations.
