News: Another Big Thunder Mountain accident

Posted at 6:37 PM EDT (2237 GMT)

Jul. 9th, 2004 -- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad suffered another setback Thursday night as it suffered its third accident in less than a year. Three passengers were injured and sent to the hospital after two trains collided.

The two trains collided in the loading area for the ride. There have been 2 other accidents involving the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in the past year. In April, two trains collided due to operator error, after just having reopened on March 10th after the death of Marcelo Torres on September 5th.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Heath Administration has said that it will keep the ride closed for at least the next two weeks to investigate and inspect the ride.

Dean Fryer, a spokesman for Cal-OSHA would not elaborate on the specifics of the accident other than "two trains bumping into each other".

The three patrons that were injured were a family from Canada and were complaining of back and neck pains.

More information can be found from Reuters.

I think the maintenance guys played too much RCT and got bored with it that whatever crashes they designed in that, they're now doing in real life.

Don't take that comment seriously.

Truefully disney land should of trained their workers better before the accident happend the first time they heard the noise.if i worked the ride i would of shut it down and had it looked at.it seems like most companys dont do nothing about a problem till someone gets hurt or is dead.i have heard about some companys not doing nothing about certin things.if they was more alert than accidents wont happend.preventing is the key to a safer place.

The problem is right now Disneyland CANNOT afford to close it down, Space Mountain is down for its HUGE refurb, and that would leave the Disneyland, well coasterless. And people thought it was bad having just Space Mountain closed.....

Perhaps it's time this ride should go. If anything, the media are giving Disney a bad name---one Disney cannot afford.
