Jul. 27th, 2004 -- 46 year-old Linda Mammola has been charged after assaulting an 11 year-old boy at Lake Compounce today. Mammola claimed the boy threw away a water toy belonging to her son, at which point Mammola slapped the boy, pulled his hair, and kicked him in the crotch within full view of visitors. He was not seriously injured, according to police.
Authorities also stated that Mammola slapped a bystander who tried to stop her. Mammola was charged with several counts and will appear in court August second. Park officials have revoked her season pass and have banned her from the park. For more information, see The Centre Daily.

Just to add a little editorial opinion here, I think this woman was far too defensive. I mean, complain to the boy's parents, but you don't kick an 11 year-old in the crotch. I mean, really.

If she had to do anything to the kid she should of just told him not to do stuff like that and tell his parents about. But kicking him in the crotch? Man, thays really low

They should ban 46 year olds from amusement parks. They just aren't safe.

Woman allegedly slapped 11-year-old at Compounce
07/27/2004
SOUTHINGTON -- A Danbury woman was arrested Friday after allegedly slapping an 11-year-old boy during a water park incident at Lake Compounce on July 11.
According to Mammola, her 9-year-old son was playing in the water with a friend when one of the children inadvertently backed into the 11-year-old in the pool. The 11 year old then went on his bully rampage by pushing and shoving the boys around in the pool, pushing them under the water, twisting their arms and wrists until the boys were frantically crying. The younger boys indicated that they thought their arms were about to be broken. The 11 year old then puffed up his chest and pushed his full weight on the 9 year old and completely submerged him under the water. Finally, he kept trying to break their water toys and threw them away.
"His behavior was unwarranted and belligerent, and I was responding because he was bigger than both my boys and could have really hurt them," Mammola said.
"I wanted him to stop, and I slapped him when he would not tell me where his parents were."
"I guess I figured that maybe if I slapped the boy, he wouldn’t do something like this again," Mammola said." I want to press charges against the boy, as does the mother of the child he almost drown.
"The woman felt her child was being bullied, and she took matters into her own hands," said Larry Piretti, spokesman for the park." It was a minor incident and there were no injuries, but I can say that the woman’s season pass has been revoked."
Mammola said the 11-year-old boy had also punched her and kicked her in the toe, and other parents who were watching may have thought she kicked him back, but she said she was splashing the water to get the boy away from her. When Moore approached her, Mammola said he made a derogatory comment about her in front of her son, and because she was already upset, slapped him as well.
When the 11 year old attacked the smaller boys, the mother stepped in and may have given the boy a light slap so that he wouldn't hurt hers or anyone else's children ever again.
Two lifeguards at the park said that they didn't witness the slap, but they did hear her yelling at the boy to leave her children alone.
Mammola was released on $500 cash.

Wow, I guess there are two sides to every story, the "press" left out the most important details!! Slapping a boy for almost drowning a boy is a totally different ball game.

^ Wow, that is radically different from the story presented on TN. I can't really blame the lady (entirely anyway).
