Offbeat: Cedar Point trip puts juror in trouble

Posted at 2:30 AM EDT (0630 GMT)

Aug. 12th, 2004 -- A trip to Cedar Point has become more then just a fun time to David Coulson of Erie County, Pennsylvania after he skipped jury duty to go to the park.

Coulson was chosen on Monday to be a juror in a lawsuit against a chemical company, and said nothing when jurors were asked if the trial posed any scheduling conflicts, as Coulson planned the trip on Tuesday. Coulson later told Judge William Cunningham of his plans, who wrote a letter to the park asking them to refund Coulson's money for the trip. When Cedar Point didn't return the money, Coulson decided to go.

Cunningham told Coulson he must report for 10 days of jury duty in September, or face time in jail.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why you don't schedule trips the day before.
Really, though, the guy should have at least planned it a week ahead or so. Although, I have to say, Cedar Point sounds a lot better then jury duty.

The guy sure got off easy---has to report back for 10 days of jury duty? I'm jealous. I've been called for jury duty twice---absolutely LOVED both times. I got paid my standard wage from my job and another $25 per day for serving---was like a vacation for me.

You're right on both counts sfft_2108. Cedar Point is that great and jury duty is that bad.
