Industry Announcements: Kings Island's next ride: Mini Cooper

Posted at 11:44 AM EDT (1544 GMT)

Aug. 12th, 2004 -- Paramount's King's Island has announced that its next big attraction will involve the Mini Cooper S, stunt driving, and a whole bunch of special effects, all on a roller coaster track.

The Italian Job: Stunt Track, which is based on the finale of the 2003 action thriller The Italian Job, allows park guests to experience what it is like to be a stunt driver and go behind the scenes of an action movie.

Guests will board their own Mini, which has its own audio special effects (think along the lines Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney-MGM Studios). Once they are seated and restrained, they will suddenly begin their chase sequence through a parking garage, tunnels, stairs, and other special effects until they conclude it by crashing through a billboard and splashing into a replica of Los Angeles' aqueduct.

For more info, and to sign up for a newsletter as more details become available, please visit the Italian Job: Stunt Track section on Paramount's Kings Island website.

Looks cool. Nothing that great. At least it's original. Any idea who the designer is?

This looks like it will be tons of fun. The theming is cool and the ride itself looks exciting.

Jeff Siebert of PKI Marketing has confirmed the ride is Premier, with lap-bar trains with FOF-type lap bars. Opening by May 2005, at least 50 MPH, quite possibly more. Antique Cars are closing SUNDAY, and construction will begin MONDAY.

Flying Eagles look to be moved to the Flight Commander pad, or left in current place if possible.

What else...

at least three trains of Three Mini Cooper cars, each train holds 12 riders.

Ride entrance will be in Coney Mall.

The theming looks impressive (based on the video). The ride itself, however, appears to be average, at best. Hopefully, this ride will surpass my expectations.

Its about time that pki got another coaster and i like the theming...there are a few comments i have though
1. the yellow/black scheme doesnt go to well with the proposed theme
2. needs to be longer
3. is that part after the police cars an overbank?
4. themeing rox specificlly in the explosion part

This looks pretty cool. The theming looks really good. The ride seems interesting and should be a lot of fun. It's been a while since PKI has gotten a major coaster, so they can definitely use this.
