News: More trouble for Top Thrill Dragster

Posted at 12:08 AM EDT (0408 GMT)

Aug. 16th, 2004 -- For the third time in two months, Cedar Point's Top Thrill Dragster has been shut down. The cause this time was a launch cable, which became disconnected from a train. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

As a result, the ride was shut down for eleven hours on Saturday as the problem was fixed and cables were replaced. After successful test runs, the ride remained open for about an hour before the park closed. Cedar Point officials have said that Top Thrill Dragster has been operating properly all day Sunday.

For more on this latest closure of Top Thrill Dragster, see NewsNet5.com.

I was there for that. Luckily I got two rides on Friday, becuase when it finally did open on Saturday I was in line for MF and wasn't going to give up the 90 minutes I had already spent.

Its got to be the weather that is messing with the cables.or something is not being done right or something.

It should be, as it was up and running fine today. Assuming, of course, something else doesn't happen to it.

I hope that eventually it won't run into as many problems as it does now. I'm glad to hear they got it back up the same day....even if it was only just before closing.

The problem is that you cant go to the local hardware store to buy the cable.

The cable probally wears down fast because it continusally pulls a 5 ton train. That has to have some stress on the cable.
