News: Power outage hits SF Great Adventure

Posted at 5:52 PM EDT (2152 GMT)

Aug. 18th, 2004 -- Six Flags Great Adventure suffered a sudden power outage today, causing the park's many rides to shut down, stranding guests who were on them at the time.

Rides like Ferris Wheels ground to a halt, leaving guests swinging high above the ground. The park's signature roller coaster, Nitro, was also affected, forcing many guests to exit the rides by means of emergency staircases. As of 5:30 Eastern Time, some rides remained without power. Authorities say that none of the guests were exposed to any danger during the power failure.

The exact cause of the power outage remains unknown at this time.

It would suck if the park didnt have backups to make the breaks work. Think about it. Your on a ride and the power goes out. No breaks. HOLD ON.

All ride brakes, unless magnetic, need power to OPEN.
