News: Riders stuck on Chiller at SFGAdv

Posted at 6:14 PM EDT (2214 GMT)

Aug. 18th, 2004 -- In one of two incidents at Great Adventure today, guests found themselves upside-down for longer then they expected on The Chiller roller coaster.

At 3:30 local time, a train unexpectedly stopped upside-down about 75 feet from the ground with 20 passengers on board. Forty minutes later, workers lowered the train to a point where guests could get off. There were no injuries as a result of the problem.

It remains unknown if this was connected to a power outage that struck the park. The cause of the problem is under investigation by the state.

Wow, that's really bad. I wonder if their going to take it out. I wouldn't be surprised if they did, since the park's getting another launch coaster next season.

I highly doubt Great Adventure would remove Chiller...it would be a stupid move.

I'm assuming this happened on the zero-g roll, correct? If so, that would really suck.

Chiller should be closed for the rest of the opperating season. I was their when it happened. It kinda sucks on what happened. The power outage is not linked to it. The power went out 30 minutes after this had happened. The train just simply did not make it to the top part of LIMs. As a result, it got stuck. People will still go on it because this isnt the 1st time it has happened.

I was @ SFGADV today during the outage on the Boardwalk side of the park. My uncle was on GASM and had to get off the train @ the MCBR. I so wanted to be the one to have to do that and walk down the stairs - crazy me. I heard a rumor that "Batman was stuck upside down" from a park guest. I was only thinking of B:TR and then realized how that's almost impossible. I thought I saw CHILLER down most of the day so I didn't process til now that it was that.

Why do people always jump to the conclusion that a ride is going to be taken down every time it has a problem?!? This drives me nuts!

Hey GP my post I made on that other thread was a Joke, and for your info, I know the difference as well. I think working in rides for 5 years does help. Thanks

Was this the reason they took out the zero-g roll?
