News: Disneyland Paris plans Tower of Terror

Posted at 12:40 PM EDT (1640 GMT)

Aug. 24th, 2004 -- Faced with climbing debt and sinking attendance, Disneyland Paris is considering using part of a 250 million euro budget (about $302 million) to build a Tower of Terror type ride in an attempt to bring visitors into The Walt Disney Studios park.

The Walt Disney Studios, which opened in 2002 adjacent to the Magic Kingdom park, has been experiencing low turnout since it opened. Visitors cite its lack of attractions (10, as opposed to 47 for the Magic Kingdom) as their primary reason for not visiting the park.

Instead of building a Tower of Terror, the park may build two or three smaller rides. However, according to park sources, the Tower of Terror is the most likely option. The ride is expected to cost around 150 million euros, or around $182 million.

This is Disney, you think they could find another theme for a drop tower.

Or they could just stick with a hugely popular attraction that they know will run smoothly and attract attendence.

Not neccessarily... look at the ToT at DCA. The turnout in California (from word of mouth) is far under what TDA and the public expected to be. Albeit the overall experience is supposed to be awesome, the turnover of attendance that everyone expected never happened. Not saying that it won't be different in Europe, but it really didn't help out like everyone expected it to here in the States.

10 ATTRACTIONS? Wow. That's a pretty lame number, even for Disney.
