News: Park admits to putting riders at risk

Posted at 1:59 PM EDT (1759 GMT)

Sep. 17th, 2004 -- A leisure company that operates Brighton Pier in England admitted to putting roller coaster riders at risk back in 2002. They allowed the Turbo coaster to operate with a 16-foot piece of track missing.

Luckily the ride operator noticed that the track was missing and was able to E-stop the ride, leaving 8 passengers stranded on the ride before they reached that point. The prosecutor in the case says the company did not take the proper steps to make sure the ride did not operate and did not provide any warning signs that the track was missing.

"They allowed the Turbo coaster to operate with a 16-foot piece of track missing." OMG. How ignorant is that? They were gonna run a coaster that was missing 16 feet of track. GEEZ. How can some one not notice that 16 feet of track is going?

I don't think a piece of track was missing. If I remember correctly, they just didn't have the transfer track section back from being in transfer mode. The track piece was there, but it wasn't in the correct location.

It's still crazy. You can't miss something like that.

Talk about ridiculous. That's crazy! Parks....all parks should train their workers better than to allow for something like this to almost happen. Thank goodness, at one worker noticed the problem and stopped it before it was too late.
