Posted at 12:46 PM EDT (1646 GMT) Sep. 18th, 2004 -- Brock Falfas is a hard working lifeguard at Soak City. He knows what to do and when to do it. He recently was awarded the Golden Guard Award from the risk management consulting firm Jeff Ellis and Associates. This award is very rare and is extremely valuable to the winner. He was impressed that he had recieved the award.
There are only three Golden Guard Awards given, Brock happened to be one of them. The firm does three random unannounced audits where they video tape the top lifeguards across the country monitoring safety, and making professional rescues. "Each auditor can only give a certain number of these awards away every season. They review lifeguards across the country and only one in a thousand will receive this prestigious award," exlaimed Raul Rehnborg, director of Knott's Soak City. Winning other awards is not new to Brock, either. In July of 2004, Brock and his fellow Soak City Lifeguards went to the Western Regional Competition of the International Lifeguard Championship in Las Vegas. Both Soak City teams placed 5th (Orange County) and 7th (Chula Vista). Soak City in Orange County won the 2003 Platinum National Aquatic Safety Award. To read more on this story, go to Business Wire
