News: Man falls then dies at Universal Orlando

Posted at 12:54 PM EDT (1654 GMT)

Sep. 23rd, 2004 -- A man getting ready to board a train for Revenge of The Mummy at Universal Studios in Florida fell onto the tracks. He was taken to the hospital and later died.

After the man fell, he complained of numbness in his leg and pains in his stomach. He died in surgery to remove his spleen, and doctors think Hepatitis C complicated the surgery. Universal says nothing from the ride led to his fall, and the family of the deceased has no plans to sue the park.

At least they are not suing. I hope Universal doesn't get bad too much bad press from this.

I don't see how he fell. Like, thought he was entering the train, but it wasn't their, and he fell or something?

Not only how did he fall but how did he DIE from that? Its only about a five foot fall, right? Maybe he landed on his head or something.

He DID NOT die from the fall...read the article. His spleen failed on him, causing him to collapse...he could've easily staggered around for a few seconds, in front or behind the car, which would lead to him falling down on the tracks. His symptoms (pain in stomach and numbness in leg) were obvious to the fact that his spleen was failing the same way his liver did due to Hepatitis C.

Again I say, how could a five foot fall kill him? Is that enough to effect your spleen that drastically? Well, obviously it is, but it just doesn't seem like it could happen. But apparently it can.

That sucks. How can you even fall under the track? Like everyone has asked. LOL.

They just said on the news here in orlando (ch 5) that another person was injured on the mummy ride today...apparently a woman got her arm caught in the gates or something (i think they were referring to the automatic gates that open up in front of you when you are about to board the ride).....anyways, i don't know how hurt she was (her arm was most likely broken), but they closed the ride for a while, i think at least a couple of hours...........man, these accidents can't be good publicity for universal's new ride (i know its not the parks fault though)

The fall didn't kill him, his spleen failing on him was the real problem here guys.

Bruns: HE DID NOT DIE FROM THE FALL. His spleen was failing him, that was his cause of death. He collapsed because of his spleen, and it just so happened that he collapsed onto the track. The fall did not even injure him, let alone lead to his death, according to the article.
