Finance: Amusement Tax hike hurts Kennywood

Posted at 11:26 AM EST (1626 GMT)

Jan. 6th, 2004 -- The borough of West Mifflin recently raised their amusement tax to a flat 5% on every admission to Kennywood Park. The hike is expected to bring in around $1 million for West Mifflin next year.

The tax brought in $519,777 last year, a drop from a total that usually is over $600,000. The tax is expected to bring in an additional $350,000; which is a total of around a million dollars. Kennywood says any jump in admission would be minimal.

This is bad....the last thing Kennywood needs is people taking money from them. They don't have much room for expansion, but this flat tax isn't a good thing.

That sucks. Its ridiculous how many towns are trying to bite the hand that feeds them.
