Oct. 14th, 2004 --
A proposed 2.5 percent admission tax in Federal Way, Washington would hurt Wild Waves & Enchanted Village amusement park. The tax, which was approved in 2002, is now likely to be voted down before it goes into effect in 2005.
Council members say the tax would send the wrong message to Six Flags, owner of the park. The tax could hurt the attendance and make prices unreasonable for some families. In turn, it could hurt Wild Waves & Enchanted Village when it needs money for new attractions from the corporate bosses. The local government wants Six Flags to turn their park into a full-fledged theme park. The mayor, who voted for the tax in 2002, now says the timing isn't right for the admission tax.
