News: Disneyland offering chance to die for

Posted at 5:26 PM EDT (2126 GMT)

Oct. 14th, 2004 -- Anyone familiar with the Haunted Mansion knows that the ride is home to 999 spooks, with room for one more. One lucky auction winner will win the honor of filling the vacancy.

The auction begins October 14 at 6 p.m. EST, and ends a week later at 6 p.m. on October 21. The winner will get a grave marker, complete with their name and an epitaph tailored to their interests by Walt Disney Imagineering, put in the graveyard at the Haunted Mansion. In addition, the lucky bidder will receive a model of the tombstone and an official certificate signifying that they are a part of the attraction.

On top of all that, the winner will win a trip to Disneyland for a ceremony at midnight on October 28, during which the gravestone will be placed. The proceeds from the auction will go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

See AuctionBytes for more. Visit Disney Auctions to bid.

I think this is a great way to raise money. There's certainly going to be a lot of bidders. Who wouldn't want to be a permanent part of the Haunted Mansion?

This would really be awesome. If I had a large amount of money I would love to do this.

This is a great idea by Disney. It will probably go for a lot of money.

After an hour of bidding, the price has jumped from the opening bid of $750 to $5,600. I can only guess how high it'll be a week from now.

My guess is that it'll be around 20,000$ by the end of the week.

It's just a tombstone--and it's for a good cause.
