News: Merger creates megapark in Wisconsin

Posted at 5:37 PM EDT (2137 GMT)

Oct. 21st, 2004 -- The Big Chief's Mt. Olympus Theme Park, the Treasure Island Waterpark Resort, and the Family Land Waterpark in Wisconsin Dells will all merge into a "megapark" for the 2005 season.

The deal, which cost around $80 million, will create what will be known as the Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park. The resulting property will cover 156 acres, with the centerpiece to be the Big Chief's park. The Family Land waterpark is a complex with both indoor and outdoor attractions. The Treasure Island Resort is a 331-room hotel with a waterpark area. The new merger also includes the budget Pleasant View Motel, owned by Treasure Island, although the motel will be torn down to make room for expansion.

2005 will also bring a number of additions to the new megapark, including a new go-cart track, two water rides, and biggest of all, the Hades wooden coaster, the first coaster by The Gravity Group.

Family Land has been a huge dissapointment, so I don't know how good of an idea this is. I would have like to see Mt. Olympus make it on their own.

Phil, I agree, familyland has'nt added any new water rides in a long, long time thats why we've been going to Noak's Ark for the last 3 years.

Does anyone know how the layout is going to work on this? From what I remember, all of these parks are on different blocks and separated by streets.

Actually I believe they are just separated by trees and some land, but the news report says they bought that land and will demolish it. Anyways this is awesome awesome news.

Wow. I went to Familyland and it wasn't anything spectacular, but now that there will probably be some sort of resort deal that includes Mt. Olympus that spells major competition for Noah's Ark.

This sounds cool but I'm not sure what to make of it since I've never been to any of the parks involved in the deal. I'd like to see some major expansion now that they seem to have gotten much bigger. I'll be checking it out next year for the first time when my friends and I head up to the Dells.
