Posted at 5:52 PM EDT (2152 GMT) Oct. 25th, 2004 -- Cary Sharp, a 37 year-old lawyer and doctor from Baton Rouge, LA, has won the chance to be immortalized in Disneyland. Sharp was the winning bidder in an auction to raise money for The Boys and Girls Club, and will receive a personalized gravestone at the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland. Sharp has only been to Disneyland once and placed his first bid of $35,500 "as a joke", not expecting to win. His final bid of $37,400 was placed Tuesday night and held steady until the auction ended on Thursday afternoon. The bidding opened October 14 at $750, although it skyrocketed to $16,000 by the end of the day. This is the first time Disneyland has let members of the public be part of the park, an honor usually reserved for long time employees. Both the Boys and Girls Club in Anaheim and Baton Rouge will receive a part of the money. See The Los Angeles Times for more.
