News: Crash causes problems and backups

Posted at 1:55 PM EST (1855 GMT)

Oct. 31st, 2004 -- Almost 6,000 residents went without power in the Vallejo, Calif., area.  Some were in attendance at Six Flags Marine World during the outage.  When the power went out, a few park goers were stuck mid-ride on roller coasters, leaving them up to 20 feet in the air.  Officials said that all the riders were rescued safely within 45 minutes of the stop.

Animal shows in the park were continued for a few hours, but the park was closed by 6 p.m.  The power came back on to all but 800 residents by 8 p.m., and the others were promised power by early Sunday morning.

Details on the crash were sketchy.

^Yes, Kyle L.'s trip report...

That would really suck to be on a coaster stuck for 45 minutes. And I would've been pissed too, since they shut down the park even when the power came back. Obviously they were just stuck in a bad situation, and didn't know how to get out, so took the obvious, and easy route out!
That sucks.

Yes, I think that it sucks that the people got stuck, and i am no big fan of six flags, but if you read the post it says that the animal shows continued for a few (3) hours, but was closed by 6pm. Power was not restored untill 8pm. That makes a grand total of 5 hours. If i was at the park i would be more upset just waiting around for the power to come back on. what is there to do when there is no power? just my 2 cents.;)

I dont see why Six Flags would suck because of this. Its not their fault that there was a power outage.
I wonder how they got into the accident.....

I live about ten minutes from Marine World and it definately wasn't their fault. A car crashed into a electricity pole which in turn knocked over a total of three major power lines in Vallejo (I don't live in Vallejo though, so I still had power). I luckily wasn't at the park at the time, but my friend was. I know were not supposed to advertise sites, but www.xtremecoastin.com has a news update on it, and if you click on it you can see some photos. It was insane how many people were trying to get their money back at guest relations...

Six Flags wasn't at fault for the power outage but it was their choice not to run the generators they had. They were to cheap to try and satisfy their cutomers. Then they tried to stiff them by giving them a pass only good for the next day. That's a load of crap and people should be pissed about it. Six Flags is lucky that most of their parks don't have competition in the nearby vicinity. If they did, they would be in even worse shape than they are now.

It was me, sorry. Must've made a left back in St. Louis instead of a right...

How big was the crash if it knocked 6,000 residents and Six Flags power out? Glad I wasn't there.
