Nov. 1st, 2004 -- Alton Towers has been involved in a legal battle for several months with a couple living near the park's entrance, who claim that noise from the amusement park has upset their lifestyle. Today the legal fight took another turn when a judge ordered the park to pay 5,000 pounds, or $9,170.
Judge Timothy Gascoigne initially ruled that the park had violated noise nuisance laws back in August, due to several factors, including screams from riders, fireworks, and corporate functions. The 5,000-pound fine is the maximum permitted by law. As a sign of just how determined the couple is, the Tussauds Group, which operates Alton Towers, estimated that the couple has spent 250,000 pounds ($458,525) in their efforts against the park. Alton Towers, which recently closed for the winter, said it would appeal the ruling. See Scotsman News for more.

It never ends for this park. They should abandon the property and let the rats take care of these people who complain about it current condition.

It's incredible that these people have put nearly half a million dollars into fighting this. 9,000 dollars is the max the government can fine Alton Towers, and I'm sure that's not going to be a lot to them. These people need to give it up. If the noise is that big of an issue for them, you'd think they could have just taken that half a million dollars and boughten a house in a quieter area.

Another thought is the fact that at least this publicity keeps Alton in the news. I hear more about this park than my local park.

This couple has absolutley no life.
How stupid can you be?
If you hate living next to an amusement park. MOVE!!!!
I've heard from one of our UK posters that most of the people in that area don't even agree with the people sueing.
I guess these people won't be happy until AT moves out.

Well maybe AT can move out and a big, loud, dangerous, smelly factory can be put there....or perhaps a nice new shopping center to bring LOADS of traffic ;)

The couple is stupid.
Who was there first? I am guessing the park.
If they wouldn't of spent all that money on the stupid law suit they could have used it to move away from the park.

How bored and lonely are these people that they wanna spend the rest of their miserable lives attempting to make names for themselves by being obnoxious? Sounds like my neighbors.
