Industry Announcements: Geauga Lake announces future plans

Posted at 3:40 AM EST (0840 GMT)

Nov. 10th, 2004 -- Geauga Lake Family Amusement Park will begin construction on a $26 million expansion featuring Wildwater Kingdom, a 20-acre waterpark to be built on the 56 acres formerly occupied by Sea World.

The first of two phases of this multi-million dollar project will be completed for the 2005 Memorial Day weekend. The final phase will premier during the 2006 season.

Some features included in Phase I of Wildwater Kingdom will contain a state-of-the-art children's aquatic play structure, a 60-foot tornado slide and the transfer of Hurricane Mountain waterslide complex from one side of the park to the other.

The expansion will also allow Geauga Lake to utilize the former wildlife property's front gates, retail locations, restaurants, restrooms and parking facilities.

Guests can also expect to enjoy the addition of Snoopy and PEANUTS gang in their very own show. In addition, the park will premier two new four-dimensional movies in the motion simulator and 4-D theater. The films, titled Robots of Mars and Dino Island II: Escape from Dino Island, will be a major attraction for every member of the family.

And something that every parent will enjoy is Geauga Lake's new pricing structure. All-Day Admission Passes will drop by $10! That's only $24.95 for admission to Geauga Lake and Wildwater Kingdom!

When I visited Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom as a child I really enjoyed that both parks existed. I think that this is a great move to recycle the former SeaWorld.

Yeah, people did actually see it coming. we knew there would be a water park expansion.
This leaves building room on the thrill rides side for taller coasters without worrying about height zoning though, so don't complain too much, and it'll make the water park side considerably more beneficial to go to.
*also*
I think I actually told people I thought they should do this once, *grin*, so hey... chalk that up to one more of my predictions that came true. :)

$25 sounds like a very inviting price for a visit!

The BIG announcement is the price drop. That will bring in a lot more people than in 2004. GL could easily see a 20-25% jump in attendance next year with those prices.

So what if it isn't a hyper? Remember, parks don't cater to spoiled enthusiasts. Cedar Fair doesn't care if you want a new coaster or not this season, they're doing what's best for the park. This is a great way to start future expansions.

This park is already 3 parks in 1, and now they are building another? That sounds like a park that deserves a trip to me.

Ok, moving the water park allows a huge extension of the Kiddie land area--this may not mean a thrill ride

Have any of you actually seen the rendering for the "whole" park, it's huge. It's taking up 20 acres of the 56 that the animal park has. And can't you realize that this is going to set up the park getting a new coaster maybe in 2007? I mean, they are moving/getting rid of everything in the current water park. And that area is huge. I think they are thinking about the future for a hyper or another coaster in the near future.

I think this is great for Geauga Lake. The waterpark looks like it should be great and with a lower price, I expect a big jump in attendance as well as great things in the future. This opens up a lot of land on the rides side of the park for all sorts of future expansion.

I definetly don't see the opening up of all this space an expansion for a massive sized Kiddy Kingdom for the whole family...I can almost guarantee that other thrill rides and even a hyper coaster will go in that spot once that area is cleared up in 2006.

Sounds like a fun hyper. Wow that is a cheap admission price. They're desperate to bring people in.

Their not desperate. I mean, there are no more animals to take care of so that would actuall cut the admission proce down o what it should be...

So much for the HYPER!!!! that everyone promissed. lol

GL already has a great selection of coasters. Looks to me like they are making room for something else down the road.

It looks like a winner if it'll be like Dorney.
