News: Stitch's Great Escape opens

Posted at 12:55 PM EST (1755 GMT)

Nov. 16th, 2004 -- Numerous fans of Alien Encounter were disappointed when Walt Disney World announced they would replace the popular attraction, but Disney officials think its replacement, Stitch's Great Escape, will be just as popular.

Stitch's Great Escape is a prequel to the hit 2002 movie "Lilo & Stitch", where guests are galactic cops-in-training and are assigned to watch Stitch, who was captured by the cops. The newbie cops are then subjected to the tomfoolery of Stitch, including smelling his chilidog burps.

For more information on Stitch's Great Escape, including video, see: WFTV 9, Orlando.

I was lucky enough to experience stitch during the "soft opening". I must say, I wasnt impressed at all. Everyone I have spoken to feels the same way. Alien was my all time favorite attraction. It's a same what they did to it. Oh well. Alien was just in the wrong park I suppose.

I honestly can't see how this will be more exciting than Alien Encounter. The reason I liked AC so much is because it was one of the very few things at the WDW properties that were both thrilling and scary.

The animatronic looks cool, but the whole ride itself doesn't look as cool as Alien Encounter. AE just needed some technical updates, Disney didn't have to replace the whole ride.

This gives me one less reason to go back--I don't have kids (not to jinx myself) and the park has nothing to draw me in.

This attraction is bound to be more popular than AE was though, as it appeals to a much larger portion of the Disney crowd.

Well, Stitch is bound to be a favorite, AE was too intense for a park like MK and families with younger children will like this. It looks like a good attraction for MK.

I'm sure that this will be very popular with the families.

Disney is not interested in the thrill department it seems, except for a few rides like Tower of Terror, etc.

Too bad I never got to AE.

^Well, it definitely seems to be a park geared more towards kids, obviously. But, I do think they seem to do a good job of balancing it out, with what they add, etc.

I've never been, so out of personal experience, I have none, but this seems, again, like a great addition, and I'm sure everyone will enjoy it.

I've been able to experience Stitch 5 times now, and I must say that I do enjoy it. I have found that a lot of families love it and even older kids enjoy it. If you go in with a bias towards AE though you will hate it, but if you try to have an open and look at it for what it is you will probably find it enjoyable.

It is no AE, but it is still fun.
