News: Disneyland versus skydiving Santa

Posted at 3:16 PM EST (2016 GMT)

Nov. 26th, 2004 -- For the past few years, the skies within three miles of Disneyland and Disney World have been declared restricted airspace due to worries about terrorism, the only parks in the U.S. with this protection. For the second year in a row, this restriction is interrupting Anaheim's annual "Jingle Bell Jump".

Since 1999, Santa has skydived down to the Anaheim Town Square mall every holiday season, but the federal restrictions have recently blocked the event. Santa came in a fire truck last year, and at this year's event, held today, he came in a balloon tied to the ground.

The merchants in the shopping center are circulating petitions requesting that Congress rethink the law. Disney officials say the regulations are necessary to protect the park from terrorism.

A little editorial opinion here...

This is just another example of these anti-terrorist measures going WAY too far. If people are going to be so rediculously paranoid, then check the plane thoroughly for weapons, run Santa and the pilot through a metal detector, even put some FBI agents on board, but it's insane to stop this for terrorist worries. I don't think Santa is going to descend on Disneyland, pull out a grenade launcher, and start shooting people.

So much for any logical thought, I guess.

^Yea. I dont think that would happen.
Though I found it funny when I read your post. Imagin santa pulling out a gernade launcher and shooting everyone. A good news story though.

Any of you Americans watched Faraneiht 9-11? Well here in Canada we actually did, and if a majority of you would have done the same thing, you would understand that Bush tries to blame it all on the terrorism, but he actually is not a victim of the situation, he gets the best of it, but not to be too much off subject, let just say Disney has nothing to worry, like if it was before 9-11.
