News: More details out about new Thorpe ride

Posted at 6:22 PM EST (2322 GMT)

Nov. 30th, 2004 -- Though it still goes by the code name of "Stealth", Thorpe Park has released a variety of details about the new Intamin rocket coaster that will be arriving at the amusement park in 2006.

The new roller coaster will have a Daytona racing theme and will rise about 213 feet above the park. It will feature a vertical hill with a 90-degree ascent and decent, as well as an airtime hill about 82 feet tall.

The racing theme will be enhanced by a queue themed to a grandstand, advertisements of actual companies such as those found at racetracks, and an operator building behind a wall painted like a checkered flag.

For more information, pictures, and an animation of the ride, visit the Thorpe website.

Good golly! As if we didn't need any more race themed intamin rocket coasters! (i.e. Dragster, Xcellerater, Rita)...

It does seem like a Top Thrill Dragster ripoff a bit. Not the most creative thing they could have come up with, but I don't think it's that bad a thing. The fact that it's similar to TTD shouldn't make the actual experience of the ride any different.

That looks pretty much exactly like TTD, only with the airtime hill and slightly different colors used for the theming.

A midget Kingda Ka. It's basically identical in layout, just much smaller. With TTD themeing. It a mix of the L-TH-B coasters of the US.

Well, Europe has it's day now! This is like Xcelerator, but an airtime hill instead of two turns. May be a bit bit better I suppose. That airtime hil isn't much shorter than KK's, only 40 feet. Which makes KK seem liek it needs those OTSRs........nahh

Wow, like someone said, ANOTHER RACING THEMED ROCKET! I guess the racing theme fits really well with this type of coaster.

One thing I noticed, is that if TTD only lasts 18 seconds, is this thing going to last like a duration of 5-10 seconds...That's kinda sad. Especially for those who would wait 4 hours for this thing. 4 hour wait for a 10 second ride, I guess Europe can claim 1 record. World's quickest coaster time. :D

LOL, it is a little Kingda Ka mini me!

Hey, more power to them. I don't care if it's themed to similar coasters, it's so far away from them! Why complain and not enjoy it?

It's amazing how popular these rocket coasters are becoming. With all these new ones being built, we will come to seven of these built between 2002 and 2006. It's a pretty simple layout for not being one of the bigger rocket coasters. Then again, it says it will be the tallest coaster over there. The theming looks really good for it too. Another thing interesting about these rocket coasters is the fact that so many of the parks that are getting them are doing extensive theming for it.

I just don't understand why they're not adding more elements to the ride. If they're going to the trouble and expense of building it, they might as well spend a bit more and add some loops and stuff. It can't cost that much extra.

If it was taller, I wouldn't mind, but at this height, it needs more.
