Dec. 2nd, 2004 --
Stanley and Margaret Nelson will be attempting to buy back Wichita's Joyland Amusement Park this December 15. The two are past owners of the park. Joyland was sold to David Rohr in May 2003, but the Nelsons filed a foreclosure lawsuit against him. A judge ruled in their favor, ordering the sheriff's sale of the property as part of the foreclosure. The Nelsons began leasing the park to Rohr back in 2000. Under his management, the park had many financial problems and was closed most of the 2004 season. The Nelsons filed their original suit last spring, only to withdraw. They refiled claiming that the park was in disrepair. The park was even closed in April after a girl suffered injuries in a 30-foot fall from a Ferris wheel. The lawsuit claims that Rohr did not make an $11,950 installment payment back June 30. The IRS also placed a federal tax lien against Rohr's company for nearly $200,000. The sale will be on December 15 at 10 a.m. The Nelsons plan to bid, and want to get the park cleaned up and in good running condition again. For more information, see the Wichita Eagle.
