News: Visionland gets new roller coaster

Posted at 8:44 PM EST (0144 GMT)

Dec. 5th, 2004 -- The new ride for Visionland is a used triple looping steel coaster from Australia. The location for the ride will be the hillside between the Rampage roller coaster and the Space Shot drop ride.

The ride that will be relocated is the former Demon ride from Wonderland Sydney that was closed in April of 2004. Demon is a standard Vekoma Boomerang.

The addition of the ride comes after a guest survery showed that what park guests wanted most was a new roller coaster. Other improvements for the 2005 season will also possibly include a new water park attraction. To date the new owners of Visionland, the Southland Group, have poured about $12 to $14 million in improvements in the park since it was brought out of bankruptcy in 2003.

This was a smart move, not only did they get a cheap ride, but they got a used version of the cheap ride. That was very smart thinking. I like this new management.

Smart move for them. It's been working for years, it's a popular model. It bores me but what does that matter. It's all for the GP.

This isn't a Six Flags park.

I'm glad that parks are buying used rides and not scrapping them.

It's a good move for them and it's nice to see that they have put some money in the park since it was bought last year. While it might not be the newest, greatest, biggest ride, it is new to them.

Yes, this was definitely a move to draw in crowds with a nice reliable ride that they know people like, even though the enthusiasts will not like it too much b/c it's not a custom coaster. Give them time. You have to crawl, before you walk!!!
