News: Silver Bullet grand opening successful

Posted at 5:40 PM EST (2240 GMT)

Dec. 7th, 2004 -- At noon Pacific Time today, Silver Bullet, the brand new inverted roller coaster at Knott's Berry Farm, officially opened.

In honor of the 63rd anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, the ceremony included a salute by various military commanders. Other special guests included ACE members, Cedar Fair CEO Richard Kinzel, Santa Claus, and sixty lucky people who paid between $100 and $500 for a seat on the first two trains to leave the station.

The $16 million dollar ride stands 146 feet tall and features six inversions with a top speed of 55 mph.

See NBC4 for pictures of the event. Visit Business Wire for the media day press release.

I can't wait until March when I can afford to go to Knott's, SFMM, Disneyland Resort, Belmont and Sea World. I love B&M Inverts (as much as Intamin Rockets and GCII woodies), so Silver Bullet should be a nice addition to my growing list of B&M Inverts (Raptor, Great Bear, Talon, Top Gun: The Jet Coaster, Batman: The Ride, Alpengeist).

For anyone looking for pictures, be patient and wait for tomorrow, because $10 says westcoaster.net will have an update.

It's nice that they opened it on a day that actually means something to the country. I hope to get to ride this thing sometime next year.

Those were some lame pictures!

I want to ride this coaster so bad!! And like BryanWood has said also, I absolutely love B&M inverts!

So, they didn't have the lake filled.

Yeah, I agree, the pictures were pretty lame. But they're POVs, which isn't that bad, I guess.

Can't wait to ride this baby in June 2005!

I don't care what people have said about it, the inversions look intense on this thing.

It will take a lot to unseat Alpengeist as my favorite invert, but it looks like it's going to give Alpy a run for it's money.
