News: PKI becomes seasonal attendance champ

Posted at 5:34 PM EST (2234 GMT)

Dec. 17th, 2004 -- Paramount's Kings Island has overtaken Cedar Point this year when it comes to attendance numbers. PKI became the most visited park in Ohio, with 3.5 million visitors during this year's 130-day operating season.

The ranking not only puts PKI at the top of Ohio's parks when it comes to attendance, but the amusement park is also the most visited seasonal park in America, and the 15th most visited out of all American parks. Cedar Point, meanwhile, fell to 17th with 3.2 million visitors over a 146-day operating season.

Kings Island attributes the increase to a favorable weather and an expanded waterpark. Cedar Point blamed its lower admission numbers on a lack of new attractions and weather problems.

I consider PKI a better overall value--the waterpark is included in the price, food prices seem a better value and the atmosphere is nicer. I'm glad to see a good park getting what it deserves!

PKI is much more family-friendly, and that's why they're pulling in better numbers than CP.

I'm curious about one thing and maybe someone can answer it for me, if not, I'll check myself. But here's the question- it says 130 opertating days for PKI and 146 for CP, is that correct? Doesn't PKI open earlier in April and I know CP doesn't open until early May. I know CP has a Halloween celebration (Halloweekends) doesn't PKI also have something in October for Halloween? My thinking is that the amount of days is wrong and that it's actually supposed to be reversed.
