News: Kingda Ka about to be topped off

Posted at 5:39 PM EST (2239 GMT)

Jan. 6th, 2005 -- One of the most anticipated coasters of 2005 is about to pass a milestone-and it isn't even open yet. As early as next week, workers at Six Flags Great Adventure will top off Kingda Ka by installing the highest piece of track.

Not only will the topping off make Kingda Ka the world's tallest coaster at 456 feet, but it also signifies that the ride is close to completion. The amusement park says that more work remains on Kingda Ka, but the coaster itself is almost finished.

Although the park is closed to the public and there is a lack of viewing spaces in the area surrounding the park, there are some nearby spots that coaster enthusiasts are keeping an eye on. Six Flags has not announced a date for the topping-off, saying the weather will determine when the event happens.

I hope the Six Flags Web site covers the topping of it. Their coverage has been decent so far. I wish they'd update more, especially the journal.

Just a note to whoever wrote the article. It's "Asbury", not Ashbury"

I can't wait to ride this thing!

This is news how? It's about to be topped off, really?

I don't think TN needs to do all of this type of stuff.

"Not only will the topping off make Kingda Ka the world's tallest coaster at 456 feet, but it also signifies that the ride is close to completion."

And it also signfies that the CP Fanboys will all have heartattacks and die because it will pass their precious TTD.! lol

I can't wait to see this thing in action.

Can't wait to stand in line for three hours and then get turned away as the ride will be down for the rest of the day.

Although since this is the fourth of this type, maybe the bugs are worked out. We shall see.

I'm an admitted cf/cp fanboy, but TTD isn't that precious to me. What is precious to me is the best intamin giga and the best old school hyper that cp has. For me it is not worth waiting three hours to ride TTD after the 4th or 5th time then to find out it has broken down. Kingdaka will be even worse for waiting b/c it is right in the philly area. Plus you wait for everything at gadv anyway.

I'm surprised at how quickly they are getting topped off since construction started well after the same time frame that TTD had two years ago.
