Industry Announcements: Kentucky Kingdom adding Tornado

Posted at 5:35 AM EST (1035 GMT)

Feb. 16th, 2005 -- Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom announced it is the latest park to be adding a ProSlide Tornado.

In the first major expansion since 1998 to Hurricane Bay Water Park, Tornado will blast riders down a 132-foot-long tunnel, leading them to a large, open funnel. Four riders will sit facing each other in cloverleaf-shaped tubes as they slide back and forth in 5,000 gallons of water.

The ride ends with a rush through the narrow opening at the bottom.

Tornados have been announced at numerous amusement parks in the last two years including Six Flags Astroworld's water park Splashtown, Six Flags St. Louis and most recently Six Flags Darien Lake.

Tornado opens May 27.

Well, why complain? It's a fun water slide and they are doing exactly what we wanted them to do. Not to forget about the smaller parks. This is one of their smaller ones and at least they are getting something. They are pretty cool water slides, remember. At least it's not a kiddie water slide or 'play-fort' type thing that they are getting. If you go to the water park there, it'll be another ride you can enjoy! :-D

IMO, this doesn't look like the most thrilling thing ever, so why are they adding them to all the parks? Are they really cheap?

They are a fun slide the first 2 or 3 times.. but they do bang you around a bit.. in the "white water" part.. also they take up a lot of room.,. i think SF is getting them because they "look cool" at SFNE tons of people think the ride goes "all the way around":and when they see it.. they just say like "ooh?"because it just goes back and forth...
i think SF would have been better off with the other style pipe slides as they wont take up as much room... and at a park such as SFKK.. they need all the room they can get...

At least they made sure these worked before installing them at all their parks, unlike Deja Vu. ;)

We got a Tornado because we finally got rid of Quake. The part of the zone where Quake sat conviniently close to Hurricane Bay, so it only made sense to put Tornado there.
