News: Great Adventure Adds new Shows

Posted at 1:01 PM EST (1801 GMT)

Feb. 18th, 2005 -- The dramatic entertainment package is part of America’s largest regional theme park’s emergence as a one-of-a-kind entertainment destination.   The highlight of the all-new show line-up will be “Spirit of the Tiger,” an amazing, custom-created, Broadway-style tiger show complete with dramatic music, colorful costumes, special effects and audience interaction.

“Spirit of the Tiger” - A Fusion of Music, Dance and Animal Athleticism

Temple of the Tiger will feature a dynamic encounter with majestic Bengal tigers in the new Golden Kingdom section. The more than 33,000 square-foot exhibit will feature an exhilarating show fusing multicultural music, dance and animal athleticism.  Outside the 1,000-seat amphitheater, an enormous exhibit area will allow trainers and tigers to interact and share their experiences one-on-one with park guests.

“’Spirit of the Tiger’ will offer more than a zoological experience,” said Jason Kantrowitz, Spirit of the Tiger’s producer/director.  “We’re bringing together veterans of the Broadway stage, television and major entertainment projects the world over to create a universe of fantastic sights and sounds that envelops guests the moment they enter the arena and grabs them until the electrifying finale.”

The presentation will begin as “animal ambassadors of the wild” - such exotic creatures as capuchin monkeys, albino pythons, kinkajous and macaws - stroll the aisles with their trainers.  The show’s pace quickens as amazing Bengal tigers, along with stilt walkers, Indian and Balinese dancers, body balancers and tribal percussionists bring the “spirit of the tiger” to life through multicultural music and dance.

Young adult tigers Balin, Faruk, Hara and Chandi, along with extremely rare golden tabby cubs Kingda Ka and Raina, and white Bengal cub Kiril, will take turns stealing the spotlight throughout multiple daily performances.  The tigers will display their natural animal behaviors, like jumping, wrestling, pouncing and swimming.

The show’s eye-popping finale will feature more than 15 performers, multiple tigers and brilliant special effects.

Between performances, highly-skilled, hands-on trainers will interact with the tigers in their specially-designed habitat.  Guests can view the animals from many locations inside The Golden Kingdom.  Temple of the Tiger is expected to premier this April, with a May grand opening.

New Family Shows and Entertainment

Throughout the park, Six Flags Great Adventure will offer more family entertainment and live shows in 2005 than ever before.  From new stunt shows to strolling street performers, theatrical thrills abound in every section of the park.

• Also new in the lush, mysterious Golden Kingdom, guests can get up-close and personal with walk-around trainers and their exotic animals, such as coati mundi, prehensile porcupines and rainbow boa constrictors.

• Kids will enjoy hot songs of the ‘80s with Bugs Bunny and his Looney Tunes pals in the new “Looney Tunes -  We Got the Beat” at the beautifully remodeled Bandstand By the Lake.

• Kids and teens will love the high-energy bike, jet ski and water ski stunts in the new “Mission: Weekend Warriors” extreme water stunt show at the Great Lake Grandstand.

• The new “Dolphin Discovery: Island Party” will make a splash at Fort Independence.  Audience members can join in the fun at this highly interactive presentation staring Atlantic bottlenose dolphins Sasha and Tamra, and the hilarious antics of California sea lions Cassie and Pippin.

• Famous “boy band” sounds will blast from Liberty Square Gazebo as the five-member singing group New Image performs songs from the ‘50s until today.

• Fun and energetic street performers will entertain park guests throughout Six Flags Great Adventure.  Talented character actors will deliver memorable performances wherever they roam.
Returning this season with new thrills:

• Master illusionist Brad Ross will take the stage in an all-new, cutting-edge illusion show featuring larger-than-life, spectacular feats at the Showcase Theater.

• The only show of its kind, based on the DC Comics ultimate crimefighter Super Hero Batman, Batman vs. Catwoman: Catfight features the Dynamic Duo, Batman and Robin, as they battle to save Gotham City from the evil clutches of Catwoman and The Joker in this high-voltage adventure featuring new stunts and special effects.

• Summer Celebration Parade will feature new characters; interactive, fun DJs will entertain guests in line as they wait for Kingda Ka, Nitro and Superman – Ultimate Flight; and fireworks will illuminate the night sky Saturday evenings from June 25 through Sept. 3.

The Golden Kingdom is slated for a spring 2005 opening, and shows will debut throughout the season.  Guests can receive up-to-the-minute news and photos on www.sixflags.com/greatadventure.  More information is available by calling (732) 928–1821.

They are really trying to become a better park. With this added to their improvments to this season, its going to be awsome on how they do this year.

I agree that they are trying to become a better park, but of all the Six Flags parks, this was not the one that needed improving. I guess they are trying to anchor east and west coasts first, buy a bunch of Tornadoes, and then improve the rest of their parks.

While of course Kingda Ka is the big deal this year at their park, they're really doing some other great things as well. The shows sound good and just the general theme and how it fits into the new coaster is great.
