News: Strike over at Six Flags New England

Posted at 5:35 PM EST (2235 GMT)

Feb. 25th, 2005 -- A strike at Six Flags New England that began Feb. 3 is now over. 12 striking workers stopped picketing yesterday and plan to return to work on Monday. However, the employees vow that this is not the end of their efforts.

The workers first went on strike seeking to join a union, and now say they will petition the National Labor Relations Board to hold elections. The employees also went on strike to protest against treatment by Six Flags, including being forced to use their own vehicles to do their jobs and having their schedules shifted without notice.

The strike was called off primarily because the workers would not be covered by the park's health insurance plan if they were not back to work by March 1.

I don't understand how they thought it was going to work out for them. Its only 12 employees, SF could have found replacements if they really wanted to be stubborn.

Just another story of a big company winning out over the small worker. Hey, what you gonna do, you know. It sounds like the workers do have some reason for wanting to have gone on strike, hopefully they get some of their problems fixed in a fair manner.

Maybe they should have cancelled the season like they did for the NHL.
