News: SFGAdv pays $750,000 in water ride suit

Posted at 6:25 PM EST (2325 GMT)

Feb. 27th, 2005 -- Six Flags Great Adventure will pay $750,000 to Betty Golembeski.

Golembeski, 45, suffered neck and knee injuries after riding the Big Bambu water slide on Aug. 9, 2001, her lawyer said.

The raft she and her children were in bottomed out because there was not enough water in the pool, the suit said.

She had knee surgery and piled up $18,000 of medical bills. Her 11-year-old daughter suffered a sprained neck among other injuries. Her 8-year-old son was not hurt.

Low water levels? You'd think this would be easy to monitor.

It probably would be easy to monitor if they had paid any attention to the problem at hand. Such a stupid small mistake that could've been easily fixed before it led to such a big problem. I'm glad that they have to pay a large sum of money. Parks will hopefully take notice of it and try in every way to make their parks the safest it can possibly be.
