Finance: Vallejo pushes for SFMW sale

Posted at 9:33 AM EST (1433 GMT)

Mar. 2nd, 2005 -- It appears that Six Flags is returning to the bargaining table to purchase Six Flags Marine World, only months after they said they would need at least another five years to negotiate such a deal.

The Vallejo city council held a closed session Tuesday to discuss the terms of such a sale. The planning commission is then expected to vote on updating the paperwork for a sale on March 7.

The city-owned park is currently managed by Six Flags, Inc., with an option to purchase the park.

The park's sale could fetch $52 million. While they currently share in the profit, it appears that the city will continue to get a cut of the ticket sales to the tune of $750,000.

The city owns the park...But Six Flags runs it for them. It's confusing but that's how it is. Six Flags has never officially bought the park, they just transformed it from Marine World Africa USA.

BTW, this is ongoing news...They were pushing for this months ago. It's not really new news.

Perhaps six flags leased the park, and now they are going to buy it.

If Six Flags buys the park, why does Vallejo still get $750,000 in ticket sales? That sure does work out nicely for the city. They get the money for selling the park but then still also get a cut of the profit. Nice deal if you can get it, I guess.

I guess instead of paying a tax to the city, they'll give them a cut of the ticket prices...
