News: Powder Keg closed after minor accident

Posted at 3:09 PM EST (2009 GMT)

Mar. 23rd, 2005 -- On Tuesday, Powder Keg at Silver Dollar City was closed due to a minor accident where an empty train bumped another that had passengers on it.

At least 4 were taken to a local hospital as a precaution, but all were subsequently released.  It is unclear as to how many were on the loaded train.

An investigator from the state fire marshall's office was on the scene today to gather information regarding the incident.  The ride remains closed until the state clears the ride.

At least it wasn't anything at all serious. These things can happen with new rides. The passengers going to the hospital is just a precaution. I wouldn't worry about it.

Hopefully this won't be too much of a nook in it's opening days. Bad press is...bad!

Yeah, but bad press for coasters is good. How many times have you been in line and heard one of the general public say, "I heard someone lost there head on this coaster,"?

That being said, I am sure this is minor. I said it before: This may turn out to be the new ride of the year. (...and no, I haven't forgotten that big 'ol thing in New Jersey)

That's surprising with Premiers track record. I've never heard of major problems with them.

Bad press usually only make for more hype. Like when Fabio got hit by the goose on Apollo it just made it into a huge joke that ended up advertising for the coaster.

Ahhhh...you are right, it did slip my mind for a moment. So, I guess Kingda Ka slips to third? Fourth? Hydra is lookin' REAL good! Powder Keg just looks fun. It's not crazy tall or fast but it looks like a blast. (pun intended) I heard someone lost their head on that coaster!
