News: Kings Island prepares for opening

Posted at 5:49 PM EDT (2149 GMT)

Apr. 7th, 2005 -- When Paramount's Kings Island begins weekend operation on Saturday, guests will notice plenty of little changes and a few big ones at the park.

Two new shows will play at PKI, including "Turn It Up!", a country music show which has played at the park before, but was not running last year. Nine of the park's rides, including the park's famed Racer roller coaster, will have increased height restrictions. The Eiffel Tower and Face/Off will be repainted, although Face/Off will remain open during the process.

The park's biggest addition, The Italian Job: Stunt Track roller coaster, will not open until May 20. However, later this month, PKI will begin "technical rehearsals", allowing guests to ride the coaster and give the park comments on it.

Sounds similar to the "technical rehearsals" they had for The Mummy at Universal Studios Florida. They advertised a May opening, but when I was there in April last year they intermittantly opened the ride on a "rehearsal" basis, with some of the special effects not yet in place.

PKI must want to pretend they are a real theme park like Disney and Universal with the soft openings.

Yep, they want to pretent like Disney or Universal. Unfortunately, PKI generally has better rides than Disney.

I think PKI is one thousand times the park Disney is. ...and as far as "real" goes, last time I checked Disney was filled with simulator rides, y'know, stuff you get on and pretend you are on a real ride.

I can't wait to hit Italian Job. It's probably not the best new ride ethis year, but it looks pretty neat with all the efects. Premier builds good stuff, too.

I'am glad it's something original.
