Travel: Dollywood Rides On

Apr. 10th, 2005 -- Tennessee's most visited attraction prepares for another season.

In the article by Tennessean.com a person that has never been to the park or even to this area of Tennessee will get a great overview of what they can expect from this "Jewel of the Smokies".

Besides giving the obvious information on the 10 new rides for this year, you can also read information on the Pigeon Forge area and what it has to offer to tourists as well as enthusiasts.

The article also sheds some light on some of the technical aspects of the off-season activities. From the article: "All rides are non-destructively tested each year and are brought back on line after a period of testing and training. The 10 new country fair rides will all go through 40 hours of testing without any riders before the first person steps onto a ride."

This would explain why the VeggieTales Sideshow Spin Coaster was not up and running last weekend when I was at the park.

Also of note is the fact that since Ms. Parton has become a partner with Herschend Enterprises, $160 million has been invested into the East Tennessee park.
