News: Bushkill Park opening delayed

Posted at 5:47 PM EDT (2147 GMT)

Apr. 17th, 2005 -- Bushkill Park sustained more than $500,000 in damage, and several rides, including the popular carousel, may not open.

The park was flooded in September after the remnants of Hurricane Ivan passed, and cleanup efforts were stopped by a flood on April 3.

Some revamped rides, an old-style dark ride included, were destroyed when the floods came through.

The park operators received $100,000 from flood insurance and have applied for a loan.

Bushkill Park has been operating since 1902.

I remember how bad those floods are. I went into Bethlehem (Adjacent to Allentown) about a week after the biggest flood and the ground was coverid in dirt from the Lehigh River. It is terrible that such an old unique ride was destroyed.

I actually go to college in Easton, so I've seen the devistation first hand. Luckly the school is on a massive hill, but it was still insane to see this amount of flooding. Who would have thought that we would have seen the #2 and #3 biggest floods in history here within 8 months? Bushkill Creek actually goes under one of the roads here at the bottom of the hill, and to think that during this most recent flood they put a boat in right on the road to rescue someone is crazy. Anyways, best of luck to Bushkill and I hope they can get up and running again as soon as possible.

I made a thread with the photos that were in the newspaper, but left out of the online article.
