Chicago’s Kiddieland amusement park opened one last time this morning for an auction of the park’s ride inventory. The parking lot of the park was filled with amusements enthusiasts and long time patrons of Kiddieland. The auction was necessary as plans to sell the rides to a person interested in moving the rides to a new area location fell through. About 430 pieces were up for auction today. The first major ride to go during the day was the bumper cars, sold to a private collector for $17,000. The park’s carousel sold for $355,000 to an area business man that plans to refurbish the attraction. The Little Dipper rollercoaster was sold to Six Flags for $33,000. It may open as soon as 2010, relocated to a children’s section at the local Six Flags Great America in Gurnee.
