Dreamland Amusement Park in Coney Island, New York shut down

Dreamland Amusement Park, located in Coney Island, New York was shut down immediately due to delinquent rent.

The owners, Thor Equities, says the parks owes up to $600,000 in back rent. The park has already paid $30,000. The park will reopen once all debt has been paid. The Coney Island Cyclone, nor Deno’s Wonder Wheel has not been affected by this closure.

New York City Planning Commission approves rezoning of Coney Island

The City Planning Commission today unanimously approved Mayor Bloomberg’s 47-acre rezoning plan for Coney Island — one officials say would preserve the area’s dwindling amusement industry while also bringing 4,500 new apartments.

The plan, which now heads to the City Council next month for final approval, calls for creating a new 9-acre outdoor amusement park off the famous boardwalk. The new park would be part of a 27-acre “entertainment and amusement district” that would also include indoor rides, games and other entertainment and high-rise hotels.

Amusement advisory panel announces recommendations for amusement park development in Coney Island

Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Robert C. Lieber, New York City Economic Development Corp. (NYCEDC) President Seth W. Pinsky and Premier Rides, Inc. President Jim Seay were joined today by members of the Coney Island Amusement Advisory Panel to announce findings and recommendations for the development of a new 21st Century, 27-acre amusement and entertainment district at Coney Island, Brooklyn. The recommendations follow three days of workshops and discussions focused on branding, marketing, planning, programming and development at Coney Island, and will be used by the City to shape and inform development plans.
