Voyage getting new trains in 2010

Holiday World announced it is putting Timberliner trains on Voyage next season.

The trains are made by The Gravity Group, the same company that made Voyage. The park says the trains will make Voyage “feel faster and a lot smoother.” Park President Will Koch says the trains “will help a lot” year after year.

Chang at SFKK being removed

Chang, the second-tallest stand-up coaster and largest coaster at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, is being taken down.

The park has begun dismantling Chang as it readies to expand its water park. The expansion will be the largest in the water park’s history.

Cyclone at Lakeside reopens

The classic wooden roller coaster Cyclone at Lakeside Amusement Park in Denver has reopened after being closed much of the summer.

Cyclone was closed in June for repairs for its 70th anniversary. It has reopened and will run for three weekends. Cyclone turns 70 next season.

Kings Dominion announces Intimidator 305

Kings Dominion announced Intimidator 305, a nearly milelong gigacoaster, for 2010.

Intimidator 305 will be 305 feet tall, drop 300 feet at an 85-degree angle and reach speeds of 92 mph. It will be 5,100 feet long. The ride will cover 5 acres and features six airtime hills and three high-speed turns.

Update: Kings Dominion announces Intimidator 305

no_video275x206DOSWELL, VA – On August 20, 2009, Kings Dominion will hold a press conference to announce the largest capital investment in the park’s 35-year history.  The event will take place at the Grand Bandstand on International Street at 11:00am.

Son of Beast closed for season

Son of Beast at Kings Island will remain closed for the rest of this season, the park said.

It could even be closed for longer. The ride was shut down in June after a woman claimed she was injured on the ride. The woman said she was injured in late May, but she didn’t report the injury until mid-June. She suffered a burst blood vessel in her head.

I went to Wonderland with a co-worker, Hilary, to get in the few rides I didn’t get to ride in April. A new section called the West End opened in June with three rides: Hornet, Fiesta Swing and Drop of Fear. I didn’t get a wristband this time. I got 10 tickets for $15. Hilary hung out just to take pictures. And eat a funnel cake. She had to have that.

Man in-line skates on roller coaster

A man wearing modified in-line skates traveled along the track of Mammuth, a wooden roller coaster at Erlebnispark Tripsdill in Germany.

Dirk Auer traveled over the entire roller coaster in a minute and reached 56 mph. His custom in-line skates had 16 wheels on each shoe and took him more than 100 hours to make. He spent two months planning the stunt.
