An investor group led by former Six Flags chairman/CEO Kieran Burke and former president/COO Gary Story have announced the purchase of Nashville Shores water park and marina and announced intentions to add major attractions for the 2010 season.

Six Flags Over Georgia employees are hoping to have the park open Saturday as floodwaters recede.
Northern Georgia and metro Atlanta have been inundated with record-breaking rain the past few days, flooding and closing roads. At least seven people have died.

Chang, the second-tallest stand-up coaster and largest coaster at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, is being taken down.
The park has begun dismantling Chang as it readies to expand its water park. The expansion will be the largest in the water park’s history.

Six Flags Great America, located in Gurnee, Illinois, played host to the latest attempt to set the Guinness World Record for largest shower and most people showering simultaneously at a single venue. Pert Plus, in marketing its latest product for men, joined with the park in this attempt.

Six Flags, Inc., (OTC Bulletin Board: SIXF) announced a company-wide green initiative to reduce electricity, fuel use and waste while helping to protect the watersheds and ecosystems across theme park and water park locations.
Already undertaking several innovative efforts to improve the energy performance of park operations, Six Flags is embarking on a groundbreaking pilot program at four parks. All vehicles and trains that operate on diesel fuel will instead be powered by used vegetable oil generated in Six Flags kitchens. Additional proactive savings in energy consumption will be achieved through the use of LED lamps and lights throughout each park resulting in reduced indirect green house gas emissions from electricity consumption.

Six Flags announced that they had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Southern Star Amusement, which has been pursuing the opportunity to take over the former Six Flags amusement park property in New Orleans, has indicated that the move does not come as a surprise.

New Orleans, LA – As part of Southern Star Amusement’s redevelopment efforts, planning has begun on what to do with the shuttered New Orleans amusement park property. Danny Rogers, founder of the company, and long time amusement industry veteran, stated, “Engineering assessments have been performed on the remaining major rides. We are now in possession of firm quotes on the repair work necessary to restore the equipment to safe operating condition.”
